Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 April 2026
Power Buddy respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It is written to comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
1. Who we are
Power Buddy (mypowerbuddy.co.nz) is operated from New Zealand. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Power Buddy. If you have any privacy questions, contact us at hello@mypowerbuddy.co.nz.
2. What we collect
We only collect what we need to provide the service. Specifically:
- Calculator inputs — house size, location, occupants, appliances etc. that you enter into our energy tools.
- Contact details — your name, email address, phone number and address when you request a quote, download an audit PDF, or submit the contact form.
- Expert account information — if you register as a listed expert, we collect your business name, contact details, service area, qualifications and any documents you upload to verify your business.
- Usage data — anonymous information about how you use the site (pages visited, time on page, approximate region) collected via Google Analytics with IP anonymisation enabled.
- Cookies — small files used to keep you logged in to admin/expert areas and to remember preferences. You can disable cookies in your browser, but some features may stop working.
3. Why we collect it
- To run the calculators and produce your audit results.
- To send your quote request to the experts you select, and to email you the resulting quotes.
- To email you a copy of your audit PDF if you request one.
- To operate the verified expert directory and let homeowners contact listed installers.
- To improve the site, fix bugs, and understand which tools are most useful.
- To meet our legal obligations.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these limited cases:
- Listed experts you select — when you request a quote, we share your name, contact details and project brief with the experts you choose so they can respond directly.
- Service providers — we use trusted third parties to run the site: Replit (hosting), Resend (email delivery), and Google Analytics (anonymised usage stats). These providers only process data on our instructions.
- If required by law — for example, in response to a lawful request from a New Zealand government agency.
5. Where your information is stored
Our database is hosted in secure, managed cloud infrastructure. Some of our service providers (notably email delivery and analytics) may store data on servers outside New Zealand. Where this happens, we only use providers that meet equivalent privacy standards.
6. How long we keep it
- Quote requests and audit submissions: kept for up to 24 months so we can resolve any follow-up queries.
- Expert accounts: kept while your listing is active, plus 12 months after closure.
- Anonymous usage data: retained according to Google Analytics' default settings (currently 14 months).
7. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct it if it's wrong.
- Ask us to delete it (we'll do this unless we're legally required to keep it).
- Withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@mypowerbuddy.co.nz. We aim to respond within 20 working days, as required by the Act.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including HTTPS encryption, secure password hashing, and access controls on our admin tools. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously and review our practices regularly.
9. Children
Power Buddy is intended for adult homeowners and tradespeople. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.
10. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first at hello@mypowerbuddy.co.nz so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top tells you when. Material changes will be highlighted on the home page.
